Actor Akshay Kumar is gearing up to lead an exciting new sci-fi action film titled Samuk, directed by Kanishk Varma and produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah. This project promises to be a thrilling alien survival story, currently under development, with shooting set to begin soon.
Samuk marks a return for Akshay to a major action role and aims to blend elements of horror, military drama, and alien adventure. The filmmakers are assembling an international team with experience from various Hollywood blockbusters. Producer Vipul Shah expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “We love pushing our limits with different genres. Samuk will offer something fresh that Indian cinema hasn’t tackled before. Our goal is to create an exceptional alien thriller for viewers.”
Director Kanishk Varma, known for projects like Sanak and Inside Edge, shared that the film was inspired by his passion for survival stories and elite security forces. “The idea for Samuk came from my admiration for survival thrillers like Alien and Predator. Collaborating with Akshay has been an incredible journey,” he shared. He emphasized his preference for using practical effects over computer-generated images, saying, “I want the creatures in the film to feel genuinely real on set.”
The project also features renowned Hollywood creature effects designer Alec Gillis, who has worked on classic franchises like Alien and Predator. Gillis expressed his excitement, noting, “Kanishk really embraces practical creature effects. We aim to design a unique alien monster that viewers haven’t encountered before.”
He praised Akshay Kumar’s on-screen presence, mentioning, “He has the toughness of Jason Statham and the charm of Tom Cruise. The task is to create a monster that can truly challenge him.”
The action scenes will be choreographed by British stunt coordinator Luke Tumber, known for his work in major franchises like Mission: Impossible and Star Wars. Tumber remarked, “Kanishk has a clear vision for the action, and everyone wants it to feel like a top-tier Hollywood film. It’s thrilling to be part of a grounded, intense action project with Akshay Kumar.”
Akshay confirmed his participation in Samuk, sharing, “Yes, I’m on board. I found the script fascinating. An alien thriller is a new venture for me and our industry, and I’m really excited about it.”
Co-produced by Aashin A Shah, Samuk aims to be a pan-Indian theatrical release, with plans for a 2027 launch.
