Diljit Dosanjh Dismisses Political Aspirations
Diljit Dosanjh, the popular singer and actor, has recently put to rest any speculation about entering the political arena. On May 9, he expressed his satisfaction with his career in entertainment, clarifying that politics is not in his plans. Following a post he made on social media platform X, discussions surrounding his nationality and citizenship have surfaced.
Why Diljit Dosanjh Won’t Enter Indian Politics
Despite being a beloved figure in India, Diljit has stated that he has no intentions of joining politics. However, a significant reason that may prevent him from pursuing any political role involves his citizenship status. Reports have confirmed that Diljit is not currently an Indian citizen; he obtained U.S. citizenship in 2022 and has been traveling on a U.S. passport since then.
Sources indicate that since September 2022, he has been visiting India on an e-visa, which means he does not hold an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card. This card allows foreign citizens of Indian origin certain privileges, akin to a permanent visa. Notably, his spouse, Sandeep Kaur, is also said to be a U.S. citizen. When Diljit acquired his American citizenship, he listed a home in California as his residence, with his last Indian passport issued in Mumbai back in 2018.
The Beginning of Political Speculation
The speculation regarding Diljit’s potential political journey began when a regional publication in Punjab featured an article suggesting he could be a strong political leader for the state. The article, authored by a group headed by retired bureaucrat S.S. Boparai, praised Diljit as a potential fit for political leadership.
After seeing the article, Diljit promptly made it clear that he had no interest in politics, responding on social media, “Kadey v Nhi.. Mera Kam Entertainment Karna, Am Very Happy in My Field. Thank You So Much 🙏🏽.”
With his focus firmly set on the entertainment industry, it appears Diljit will continue to entertain his fans without venturing into politics.
