US Official Denies Reports on Unfreezing Iranian Assets
Washington: A high-ranking US official rejected claims on Saturday regarding the release of Iran’s frozen assets, which are held in Qatar and other banks.
Delegations from both Iran and the US have arrived in Islamabad, Pakistan, to engage in discussions focused on ending the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
Iran has stated that any agreement to halt the fighting must include not only the release of its sanctioned funds but also an end to Israel’s military actions against Hezbollah in Lebanon.
A source from Iran had communicated to Reuters that discussions led by the US included plans to unfreeze these assets, suggesting that such a decision would help ensure safe navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
In response to these claims, a senior US official at the White House asserted, “This is false. The meetings have not even started yet.”
On the same day, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with US Vice President JD Vance in Islamabad, marking the beginning of peace talks aimed at resolving the conflict in the Middle East.
