Cameron Green Poised for Bowling Return in IPL Match Against LSG
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) fans have reason to cheer as Cameron Green is set to return to bowling during their upcoming match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Thursday, April 9. This news comes from ESPN Cricinfo, noting that Green has only been utilized as a batsman in KKR’s first two matches against Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad.
The Australian all-rounder, who was acquired for a hefty sum of Rs. 25.2 crore, has faced criticism for not living up to expectations, especially as he has struggled with the bat. Cricket Australia has reported that Green has been managing a lower-back injury that has kept him out of the bowling lineup but is now on the mend.
“Cameron has a lower-back injury that requires a bit of time away from bowling,” Cricket Australia mentioned on March 30. “He is in the process of gradually increasing his bowling load in India and is expected to return in about 10 to 12 days.”
In exciting news, Green has begun bowling in the nets, indicating that he may soon contribute with the ball. His absence from the bowling attack has unsettled KKR, especially amidst injuries to players like Harshit Rana and Akash Deep, with Matheesha Pathirana still recovering. This means that KKR’s bowling resources have been stretched thin.
As far as batting is concerned, Green has not been at his best, scoring only 24 runs in three matches, averaging a mere eight. One run-out against Sunrisers Hyderabad wasn’t entirely his fault, but he has yet to make a significant impact. Former Australian captain Aaron Finch noted on ESPNcricinfo’s TimeOut that Green seems to be under pressure, lacking the aggressive approach he once displayed.
“He doesn’t look the same as he used to,” Finch commented. “When he was opening for Mumbai Indians, he had a completely different mindset and was dominant at the crease. Now, he seems hesitant. They should either promote him in the batting order or give him a break.”
KKR Faces Bowling Challenges
The anticipated return of Green to bowling comes at a crucial time for KKR, as they will also be missing Varun Chakravarthy due to a finger injury. On a positive note, Sunil Narine is expected to rejoin the playing XI for the match against LSG, which should provide some much-needed support to the bowling unit.
KKR is hopeful that with Green’s return and Narine’s inclusion, they can bolster their bowling attack and address the challenges posed by recent injuries, aiming for an improved performance in the ongoing IPL season.
