IPL 2026: Kris Srikkanth Predicts Rohit Sharma’s Power Play Against KKR at Wankhede

Rohit Sharma Poised for Big IPL 2026 Opener Against KKR

Former Indian selector Kris Srikkanth is optimistic about Rohit Sharma’s performance in the IPL 2026 season. He believes the Mumbai Indians’ captain will shine against the Kolkata Knight Riders at the Wankhede Stadium, thanks to his long-standing success against this team.

Rohit has consistently performed well against KKR, surpassing the 1,000-run mark over the years. In a recent video on his YouTube channel, Srikkanth expressed high hopes for Rohit in their upcoming match, noting his confidence against KKR.

“Rohit Sharma has historically been like a treat for the Mumbai Indians when up against KKR. I’m sure he will tackle their bowling with ease,” Srikkanth remarked.

With the clash between the Mumbai Indians and KKR set for March 29, Rohit will again be the team’s focal point. While the Mumbai Indians look to him for a strong start, KKR will lean on star bowler Sunil Narine, who has had success against Rohit in past matches.

Rohit’s Track Record Against KKR

Rohit Sharma’s history against KKR highlights why he is such a crucial player. He has amassed 1,083 runs against this franchise with an impressive strike rate of 127.86. His record includes six half-centuries and one century, with a top score of 109 not out.

However, despite his impressive overall stats, Rohit’s recent performance against KKR has seen a dip. His last half-century against them was in 2020. At the Wankhede Stadium specifically, he has scored 238 runs against KKR at a strike rate of 120.81.

Nevertheless, Rohit has notably improved as a T20 batsman over the last two years. His strike rate jumped from around 133 to approximately 150 in 2024, highlighting a more aggressive batting style. MI head coach Mahela Jayawardene acknowledged this change, praising Rohit’s dedication and preparation leading into the season.

“He has shown commitment in his training and skills,” said Jayawardene. “I’m pleased with what I’ve seen in practice.”

As always, Mumbai Indians will be counting on Rohit to give them explosive starts. On the other hand, KKR will be hoping that Sunil Narine can capitalize on his strong record against Rohit, having dismissed him 10 times in 28 innings.

With Rohit’s impressive record and Narine’s strong performance history, cricket fans can anticipate an exciting face-off at Wankhede.
