Tiger Woods Arrested on DUI Charges
Former world number one golfer Tiger Woods has been arrested and charged with driving under the influence, causing property damage, and refusing to take a lawful test. He is currently held at the Martin County Jail in Florida, where he must remain for at least eight hours as per state law.
Interestingly, Woods registered a score of zero on a breathalyzer test but declined to provide a urine sample. Law enforcement officers noted that he seemed to be under the influence of some form of medication or drugs, although no illegal substances were found in his vehicle.
The arrest followed an incident in which Woods’ Land Rover flipped over on a two-lane road near his home in Jupiter Island, according to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office.
Woods, aged 50, had previously faced a serious accident in February 2021 when he crashed his car in Southern California, resulting in multiple leg fractures. No charges were made from that incident, but it greatly impacted his golf career and limited his participation in recent PGA Tour events.
In May 2017, Woods was also arrested on a DUI charge in the same area and later pleaded guilty to reckless driving. As a result, he received one year of probation, along with a $250 fine and 50 hours of community service.
As for golf, the 15-time major winner is not expected to take part in next month’s Masters Tournament, although reports indicate that he has registered for the US Senior Open. Recently, Woods expressed interest in playing on the Champions Tour as he approaches his 50th birthday.
“I’m trying. Put it that way,” Woods stated at a recent event when discussing his return. He mentioned the challenges he faces with a fused back and a recent disc replacement. “Entering a new decade has me thinking about the possibility of playing with a cart. However, I’m not inclined to do that on the PGA Tour because I believe in competing without it, but on the Champions Tour, it might be a different story.”
Stay tuned for further updates on Woods’ situation and career.
