Harshit Rana’s IPL 2026 Commitment in Doubt
Kolkata Knight Riders’ fast bowler, Harshit Rana, might not participate in most of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 matches. Reports indicate that he is still recovering from knee surgery, and there’s no set date for his return to the field.
Recently, Rana was seen at the Naman Awards 2026, using crutches to assist his movement, highlighting his ongoing struggle with recovery. According to ESPNcricinfo, while he is currently in rehabilitation, the medical team of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) hasn’t provided a timeline for his comeback.
If Rana misses the entire tournament, which kicks off on March 28, he will be sidelined from a second major event this season, having already been ruled out of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 shortly before it began due to injury during a warm-up match against South Africa.
While some sources suggest a potential for his return, others, including The Times of India, report that he is unlikely to play any matches in IPL 2026.
A source mentioned, “Harshit Rana unfortunately will not be available, but this opens the door for other bowlers like Vaibhav, Umran, Kartik, and Akash to seize their moment. A replacement has not been decided yet.”
If Rana is indeed absent, the Knight Riders will have to cope without their second key bowler this season, following the departure of Mustafizur Rahman. However, they have brought in Zimbabwean bowler Blessing Muzarabani, who performed impressively in the T20 World Cup. KKR will rely heavily on their young Indian pacers like Vaibhav Arora, Umran Malik, and Kartik Tyagi to step up in the tournament.
