Brief
As the focus remains on the ongoing conflict with Iran, Hamas is working to strengthen its authority in Gaza. Recent videos and photos shared on social media show the group re-establishing its presence in everyday life. Israeli analyst Michael Milshtein noted that Hamas is not only rebuilding its military forces but is also actively asserting control over public affairs.
“They are really taking steps to show their power in the community, not just in military terms,” Milshtein said, mentioning visible signs like new police actions and public gatherings.
Gazan political analyst Mukhaimer Abu Saada echoed these observations, stating that plans for post-war Gaza have significantly slowed due to the escalation of the regional conflict. “Everything regarding Gaza is currently on pause,” he said. Prior to the war’s intensification, discussions were underway about establishing a peace framework and international support for Gaza.
While both analysts agree that the Iranian conflict has eased the pressure on Hamas, they also noted a decline in momentum for any peace initiatives. Palestinians are now expressing a sense of waiting for the situation to change after the war.
The possible presence of an international stabilization force in Gaza remains a hot topic. However, Abu Saada mentioned that Hamas might welcome such a force, viewing it as a way to limit Israeli military actions rather than a threat to its power.
As discussions circulate regarding the future of Gaza and its governance, both analysts indicated that the outcome of the conflict with Iran could play a critical role in shaping Hamas’s position and strength moving forward. If Iran remains stable, it could provide a boost for Hamas’s morale and influence in the region.
