Iran Issues Warning to Europe Amid Ongoing Tensions
An Iranian official has declared that any European nations supporting the conflict against Iran could become “legitimate targets” for retaliation from Tehran. This caution was issued by Majid Takht-Ravanchi, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister, during an interview with France24.
In his comments, Takht-Ravanchi referenced a recent apology from Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to neighboring countries that have suffered from Iranian military actions. He emphasized, “We have warned the Europeans and others to stay clear of involvement in this war of aggression against Iran. If any country aligns itself with the aggression led by the U.S. and Israel, they should expect to face Iranian retaliation.”
He continued, stating that Iran is under pressure but intends to defend itself vigorously, “This conflict has been thrust upon us, and we are committed to protecting our people.”
Takht-Ravanchi also mentioned that Iran approached negotiations regarding its nuclear program with “good faith.” However, this came shortly before the U.S. launched military operations, escalating tensions in the region.
Meanwhile, President Pezeshkian addressed neighboring countries during a televised speech, expressing regret over Iran’s past actions. He insisted that future military actions would only occur in response to attacks against Iran. “I sincerely apologize to neighboring countries that faced attacks from Iran,” he said. “We must aim for diplomacy and not engage in hostilities unless provoked.”
Even with these statements, the situation remains volatile. The United Arab Emirates reported that its defenses intercepted 16 ballistic missiles, emphasizing the ongoing threat even as leaders call for restraint and diplomacy.
As the situation evolves, both Iran and its neighbors are navigating a tense landscape of military readiness and diplomatic overtures, underscoring the fragility of peace in the region.
