Abhishek Sharma Gets Advice from Ricky Ponting Ahead of T20 Semi-Final
Star Indian cricketer Abhishek Sharma has received valuable insights from former Australia captain Ricky Ponting as India gears up for its semi-final against England in the T20 World Cup 2026. Despite being a key player, Abhishek has struggled in the tournament, managing only 80 runs in six matches.
His performance started off rocky, with three consecutive ducks before he scored a modest 15 runs against South Africa. However, he showed signs of improvement with a quick 55 runs off 30 balls against Zimbabwe, only to fall again for just 10 runs against the West Indies.
Ponting has suggested that instead of intense practice sessions in the nets, Abhishek should take some time off to refresh mentally. “When you’re in a slump, it might not help to just keep practicing every day. Sometimes a little break can do wonders. Your skills are still there,” Ponting explained.
He believes that Abhishek could benefit from reducing his practice time, encouraging him to focus on other aspects of training, like fielding and bowling. “In high-pressure tournaments, stepping away from the nets for a while can actually be beneficial. I think Abhishek has something special in store for the semi-final,” he added.
Abhishek’s Track Record Against England
Abhishek has performed exceptionally well against England in T20 internationals, scoring 278 runs in five matches with an impressive average of 55.80 and a staggering strike rate of 219.68. Notably, he scored a remarkable century in his last encounter, making the third-fastest century in T20 history among Full Member nations in just 37 balls, finishing with a personal best of 135 runs off 54 balls.
With the crucial match against England taking place at the same venue in Mumbai, fans are hoping Abhishek can regain his form and shine in this significant game.
