Hyderabad: Serious Charges for Man Endangering Train Safety

A 42-year-old man, known as ‘Sadhu’ Ramdas, has been charged with serious offenses under the Railways Act for deliberately putting passenger safety at risk. He’s facing charges under multiple sections, including one for obstructing railway operations. Notably, this case has resulted in one of the harshest penalties ever handed down in South Central Railway (SCR) for such actions, as most offenders usually receive a maximum sentence of three months.

The incident occurred on May 8, 2025, when railway track workers alerted the Railway Protection Force (RPF) about stones and elastic rail clips placed near the tracks between Kacheguda and Budvel stations. The RPF quickly formed a special team to investigate, treating the report as serious. Upon reviewing CCTV footage, they identified Ramdas loitering suspiciously near the junction points.

“Using the video evidence and additional information, we were able to locate and arrest him,” stated RPF inspector Gorakhnath Mawl from Kacheguda.

A Pattern of Risky Behavior

Upon further investigation, authorities found that Ramdas had been involved in similar dangerous activities across different states after losing his job as an electrician during the COVID-19 pandemic. His actions have previously been noted in Tamil Nadu, according to RPF reports.

During questioning, investigators sought to understand his motives, but he did not provide any clear answers. What stood out to officers was the methodical way he executed his plan, placing 20 stones in a row at five distinct locations along the Kacheguda-Budvel route.

Initially, there were concerns about his mental health, but after further interrogation, it was clear that he comprehended his actions and answered questions coherently. This case underscores the severe repercussions of endangering public safety on the railways.
