U.S. Officials Visit USS Abraham Lincoln Amid Tensions with Iran
On Saturday, U.S. Special Envoy for Peace Missions Steve Witkoff, along with Jared Kushner and Admiral Brad Cooper, the commander of U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), made a scheduled visit to the USS Abraham Lincoln in the Arabian Sea. This occurrence comes at a time of heightened tensions with Iran.
During the visit, Witkoff expressed gratitude to the sailors and Marines, highlighting their role in ensuring safety and supporting the government’s message of “peace through strength.” This was just one day after discussions took place in Oman concerning Iran’s nuclear program.
On social media, Witkoff shared, “We thanked the sailors and Marines, observed live flight operations, and spoke with the pilot who intercepted an Iranian drone approaching the carrier. Proud to stand with those who protect our interests and showcase American readiness.”
The USS Abraham Lincoln had initially set sail from San Diego in November for the Indo-Pacific area before heading to the Middle East in January.
Admiral Cooper praised the dedication of the service members, stating, “Their commitment to the mission shines here in the Middle East, demonstrating U.S. military readiness and strength.”
Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is scheduled to meet with President Trump in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday to further discuss Iran-related matters. Netanyahu’s office emphasized the importance of including limits on ballistic missiles and ending Iran’s support for militant groups like Hezbollah and Hamas in any negotiations.
Reflecting on the recent talks in Oman, Trump described them as “very good,” indicating optimism regarding potential dealings with Iran. He commented, “Iran looks like it wants to make a deal very badly; we’ll see what that deal is.”
