Norway’s Royal Family Faces Turmoil Amid Rape Allegations Against Crown Princess Mette-Marit’s Son

Turbulent Times for Norway’s Royal Family

The Norwegian royal family is currently in a difficult situation as Crown Princess Mette-Marit’s son, Marius Borg Høiby, gets ready to face trial on serious criminal charges, including rape. This comes at a time when documents related to Jeffrey Epstein are raising questions about the princess’s past interactions with him.

Marius, who is set to appear in Oslo district court this Tuesday, has been indicted after a long investigation. It’s important to note that he is not a member of the royal household and does not have an official position.

In 2024, authorities arrested Marius multiple times due to increasing allegations against him, although he was not kept in custody while prosecutors gathered evidence. He faces charges for several sexual assaults and violent behavior towards former partners, with incidents reported as far back as 2018 up until late 2024, including claims of breaching a restraining order.

If found guilty, the 29-year-old could be sentenced to as much as ten years in prison, with court proceedings expected to last until mid-March. Marius’s lawyer insists that his client denies all accusations of sexual abuse and contests most related to violence.

This situation has been challenging for a monarchy that usually holds strong public confidence in Norway. The media attention has intensified further following a recent release of documents connected to Epstein, which mention Crown Princess Mette-Marit numerous times. The princess has previously acknowledged her contact with Epstein and has expressed regret over it.

Reports indicate that in 2013, Mette-Marit stayed at a property owned by Epstein in Palm Beach, Florida. According to Norwegian broadcaster NRK, this visit was organized through a mutual friend. In statements to the Associated Press, the princess admitted that she did not investigate Epstein’s background thoroughly at the time and described her association with him as a regrettable mistake. She expressed her deep sympathy for Epstein’s victims.

This unfolding story continues to attract widespread attention as the royal family navigates these challenging circumstances.
