Harleen Deol Shines as UP Warriorz Claim Victory over Mumbai Indians
Harleen Deol had a remarkable outing on Thursday, earning the Player of the Match title as the UP Warriorz defeated the Mumbai Indians by seven wickets in the Women’s Premier League. Playing at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai, Harleen stood tall with an impressive score of 64 runs off just 39 balls, hitting a total of 12 fours to lead her team to a substantial win.
Just a day prior, things hadn’t gone as smoothly for the young player. In a match against the Delhi Capitals at the same venue, Harleen was retired out with three overs left in the innings while she was batting at 47 runs from 36 deliveries. At that time, she was in good form, but Chloe Tryon came in to replace her.
After her fantastic performance against the Mumbai Indians, Harleen spoke about her earlier decision, mentioning that it was the right call to let Tryon bat. She emphasized that Tryon has the ability to strike the ball cleanly and could have made a big difference in the last few overs.
Reflecting on both games, Harleen said, “Actually, yesterday too I was batting well. As you saw today, how Chloe can change the scenario. I just took it that way. She’s someone who can hit big, but that didn’t go our way. That’s how I look at it.”
Chloe Tryon had a tough start in the previous match against Delhi, scoring only one run off three balls. However, she bounced back brilliantly on Thursday, contributing 27 runs off just 11 balls, which included four fours and a six, helping the Warriorz chase down a target of 162 runs with 11 balls to spare.
With this victory, the UP Warriorz became the last team to secure a win in WPL 2026, positioning themselves at the bottom of the points table with two points and a net run rate of -0.906.
The Warriorz will look to continue their winning momentum as they face the Mumbai Indians again on Saturday, January 17, at the same venue.
