Mumbai: Celebrated musician and Padma Shri awardee Shankar Mahadevan has officially launched “Pravasi Samwad,” a new magazine aimed at connecting the global Indian community.
This magazine marks an important step in the Indian diaspora media landscape, providing a dedicated platform for Indians living abroad to share their stories and experiences.
The launch took place in Mumbai during a modest ceremony, organized in partnership with Legacy Media and the Media Entertainment and Skills Council (MESC). It coincided with a special edition featuring 11 recipients of the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award (PBSA) for 2025, which is the highest honor given to overseas Indians. The magazine has plans to cover the remaining 16 PBSA awardees in future editions, highlighting their significant contributions to society.
Kaushalendra S Singh, the Editor-in-Chief of Pravasi Samwad, expressed the vision behind the magazine: “Pravasi Samwad aims to create a much-needed platform for the Indian diaspora around the world. We want to document and celebrate their journeys, challenges, and achievements—stories that often go unnoticed despite their importance. Our goal is to make these voices heard and honor their contributions both to India and globally. We believe that Pravasi Samwad will become a popular space for NRIs to share their stories and engage with one another.”
Dr. Mohit Soni, CEO of MESC, emphasized the significance of creativity and storytelling within the Indian community. He stated, “The Indian diaspora has been a great ambassador of India’s talent and values around the world. Pravasi Samwad is a timely initiative that not only celebrates these achievements but also builds a structured platform to inspire future generations and strengthen India’s cultural narrative on a global scale.”
Dr. Sayed Anwar Khursheed, a PBSA awardee from Saudi Arabia, voiced his support for the magazine, noting that it has the potential to effectively represent the Indian diaspora. He praised the team’s dedication to authenticity and purpose in portraying the stories of overseas Indians.
With a focus on real-life experiences, leadership, innovation, and cultural identity, Pravasi Samwad aims to be a credible voice for the Indian community around the world.
