India Clinches T20 Series with Victory Over Sri Lanka
In a thrilling finish, India defeated Sri Lanka by 15 runs in the fifth and final T20I match held in Trivandrum on December 30, completing a clean sweep of the series with a 5-0 victory. After the match, Jemimah Rodrigues captured a celebratory selfie, marking the joyous occasion for the Indian women’s cricket team.
Struggling at first with the bat, India found its rhythm thanks to captain Harmanpreet Kaur, who scored an impressive 68 runs. A crucial late innings contribution from Arundhati Reddy helped stabilize the innings. Sri Lanka, however, put up a commendable fight, with Imesha Dulani and Hasini Perera both scoring fifties that kept the match exciting for the spectators. Unfortunately, after losing both key players, Sri Lanka couldn’t maintain the momentum, allowing India to secure the win.
Celebration Highlights
Following the match, Harmanpreet invited debutants Vaishnavi Sharma and G Kamalini to lift the trophy, continuing a cherished tradition from the men’s team. The celebratory moods were high, and soon after, Jemimah rallied the team for a group photo to capture the moment.
Captain Harmanpreet’s Reaction
Reflecting on the victory, Captain Harmanpreet expressed her excitement about the year 2025, stating that the team finally received the recognition they deserve for their dedication and effort. She emphasized the importance of maintaining their winning momentum as they look ahead to the upcoming T20 World Cup.
“2025 has really been great for us. For all the hard work we’ve done, this year, we’ve finally got the credit. Now, it’s all about keeping those good habits and continuing to win,” she said.
Harmanpreet went on to stress the significance of teamwork and belief in their abilities, highlighting the positive atmosphere generated by the coaching staff. “We’ve played a lot of T20 cricket together, and it’s about believing in ourselves. Everyone is committed to raising our standards, and we want to build on this series for what’s coming next,” she added.
As the team prepares to disband and join their respective squads for the Women’s Premier League, which begins on January 9, they carry with them the momentum of a successful series.
