Shop Like You Mean It in New York City
As New York City keeps changing, one thing stays true: we have some of the most amazing and unique small businesses out there. Coming up, Small Business Saturday is set to celebrate these local gems—an important day for shop owners and their communities.
Every year, this special day falls on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. It started in 2010 by American Express to support local shops, helping them get noticed during the busy holiday shopping season. Since then, it has directed over $200 billion to small businesses across the country.
For shop owners like Caroline Weaver of Locavore Variety Store in Greenwich Village, this time of year is crucial. “Many small businesses depend heavily on holiday sales,” she shared.
Weaver is not just running her store filled with unique items, but she’s also been busy compiling a guide featuring 670 of NYC’s coolest independent shops—a handy resource for holiday shoppers.
Here are four neighborhoods in New York that Weaver recommends for finding those perfect holiday gifts.
