Multiple Explosions Rock India and Pakistan, Killing Over 20
In a tragic series of events, explosions in both India and Pakistan have left at least 20 people dead, marking a dark 24-hour period in the capitals of both countries.
In New Delhi, a car blast occurred near the famous Red Fort during rush hour, claiming the lives of eight individuals and injuring 20 more, as reported by local police. The explosion took place close to a metro station in a busy area of the old city, with officials stating that the car’s occupants are presumed dead and several nearby vehicles sustained damage.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident under India’s anti-terrorism law, while forensic teams began examining the site. In response to the blast, security has been stepped up across various states.
Hours later, in Islamabad, a suicide bomber detonated explosives outside a district court, resulting in the deaths of 12 people and injuring 27 others. According to Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, the attacker attempted to enter the courthouse but instead detonated the bomb next to a police vehicle. The Tehreek-e-Taliban has claimed responsibility for this deadly act.
Earlier on the same day, another suicide attack had already claimed three lives, and militants also attacked a military school in the northwest region of Pakistan. No group has yet taken responsibility for these earlier assaults.
These bombings follow a fragile ceasefire agreement reached in May 2025 between India and Pakistan, which was facilitated by the Trump administration. Despite the calm that followed, tensions have remained high, with complaints of border violations being reported by Indian officials.
The situation remains unstable, highlighting ongoing concerns about security in both nations as they face the ongoing threat of violence and terrorism.
