Yashasvi Jaiswal Shines in Ranji Trophy Return
Yashasvi Jaiswal made a strong comeback in the Ranji Trophy for Mumbai, scoring a brilliant century against Rajasthan at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, his home ground for IPL. This match marked his return to the Ranji Trophy after a break since January 2025, following a short period away from the Mumbai team and a recent tour with India’s ODI squad in Australia, although he did not play in any matches there.
On Day 4, Jaiswal turned an overnight score of fifty into a century, hitting 100 runs off 120 balls with 11 boundaries. This knock marked his fifth Ranji Trophy century, reached in just 21 innings since his debut in 2019. His performance also crossed the 1,000-run milestone in Ranji Trophy cricket, averaging over 57 in 10 matches.
After returning from Australia, Jaiswal decided to focus on domestic cricket to prepare for the upcoming home series against South Africa. His participation in the Ranji Trophy indicates his commitment to staying sharp for national duties.
In addition to his batting, Jaiswal contributed with the ball by taking the wicket of Deepak Hooda, who scored 248 runs for Rajasthan. This all-around performance added significant value to Mumbai’s efforts and showcased Jaiswal’s skills.
This match was also significant as it marked Jaiswal’s return to the Mumbai team after a brief departure last season, which he eventually reversed. Currently, he is not in India’s T20I squad for the ongoing series against Australia, allowing him to focus on his form in domestic cricket.
With a total of 17 First-Class centuries, including seven in Test matches, Jaiswal’s impressive career continues to grow. Recently, he reached his seventh Test century against the West Indies, making him the second opener after Graeme Smith to achieve this feat before turning 24.
Statistically, only Sachin Tendulkar has more centuries than Jaiswal among Indian players under 24. The Mumbai selection committee is planning to meet after this match to finalize the squad for their upcoming game against Chhattisgarh, and Jaiswal’s current form is expected to influence their decisions.
Jaiswal’s century at his IPL home ground further emphasizes his rising status in Indian cricket. His ability to excel in different formats highlights his importance for both Mumbai and India in future competitions.
