Trump Reflects on Sharif’s US Visit, Champions India-Pak Ceasefire

Trump Claims Credit for India-Pakistan Ceasefire

In a recent speech from the Oval Office, US President Donald Trump asserted that his involvement played a crucial role in the ceasefire between India and Pakistan. Trump claimed he helped avert a possible nuclear crisis during tensions between the two nations.

During his address, Trump recalled a statement made by Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who praised him for saving “millions of lives.” Trump noted, “The Prime Minister got up the other day and said beautifully that I saved millions of lives. I think he was referring to the nuclear threat with India, which was very close.”

This statement comes in the aftermath of a military conflict that erupted in May 2025. The conflict was triggered by India’s Operation Sindoor, launched in response to a deadly attack on tourists in Jammu and Kashmir earlier that April. The operation targeted several terrorist bases in Pakistan.

Pakistan retaliated with drone strikes, and both countries found themselves in a tense standoff. However, on May 10, a ceasefire agreement was reached. Before the official announcement, Trump took to social media to announce that he had facilitated the ceasefire.

Trump’s Statement on Air Combat

In addition to discussing the ceasefire, Trump claimed that during the conflict, seven aircraft were shot down, although he did not specify which country was responsible. In August, Indian Air Chief Marshal AP Singh had noted that the Indian Air Force downed five Pakistani jets during the four-day confrontation.

Singh provided details about the operation, explaining that certain targets were hit from a significant distance. The situation remains a sensitive topic, with both nations continuing to monitor each other closely.

As the region navigates these complex dynamics, Trump’s comments highlight the ongoing international attention on India-Pakistan relations.
