Australia Faces Injury Setbacks Ahead of ODI Series Against India
Australia’s cricket team is grappling with a growing injury list as they prepare for their One Day International (ODI) series against India. The squad is already without the likes of Pat Cummins, Glenn Maxwell, and Cameron Green, and now they will also be missing Josh Inglis and Adam Zampa for the first match of the three-game series.
Josh Inglis, who recently suffered a calf strain prior to the T20I series against New Zealand, has not recovered in time and is expected to miss the first two ODIs. Meanwhile, Adam Zampa will sit out the first ODI due to personal reasons.
With Inglis sidelined, Australia finds itself without its two main wicketkeepers for this series. Alex Carey, the first-choice keeper, is currently engaged in the Sheffield Shield, preparing for the upcoming Ashes series, which means he will join the ODI series a bit late. In their absence, aggressive keeper-batter Josh Philippe has been called up to fill the gap.
Philippe had stepped in for Glenn Maxwell during the recent T20I matches against New Zealand, but he didn’t get a chance to play. However, with both Carey and Inglis unavailable, Philippe is ready to make his ODI comeback for the first time since 2021. He has played three ODIs to date, scoring a total of 65 runs.
Australia’s Growing Injury Concerns
The Australian team is currently facing a tough time with several key players out of action, either due to injuries or because they are focusing on the Ashes preparations.
Josh Inglis
Inglis was ruled out because of a calf injury he picked up in training before the New Zealand series. After experiencing discomfort during a running session in Perth, scans showed the extent of the injury. He will miss all three matches against New Zealand and is set to be absent for the initial matches against India.
Cameron Green
Cameron Green, the star all-rounder, is concentrating on his Ashes preparation by participating in Sheffield Shield games. As a result, he will also miss the T20I series against India.
Pat Cummins
Pat Cummins, the team’s ODI and Test captain, has stated that he is unlikely to return before the second Test of the Ashes series. Consequently, he has not been included in the squad for the white-ball series against India.
