Greta Thunberg Sparks Controversy with Israeli Hostage Photo in Palestinian Advocacy Post

Greta Thunberg Draws Criticism Over Controversial Instagram Post

Swedish environmental activist Greta Thunberg is under fire for sharing an Instagram post that featured an image of a starving Israeli hostage, Evyatar David, which she allegedly used to illustrate the plight of Palestinians.

The post contained the message: “The suffering of Palestinian prisoners is not a matter of opinion — it is a fact of systemic cruelty and dehumanization. Humanity cannot be selective. Justice cannot have borders.” One of the images showed David, taken hostage during a music festival on October 7, 2023. In the video from which the image was taken, David describes his harsh conditions in captivity, revealing that he hasn’t eaten for days. Disturbingly, he was also forced by his captors to dig his own grave.

Yeela David, Evyatar’s sister, reacted strongly, urging Thunberg to understand the context better before sharing such content. She said, “Every minute you are not deleting the post, you are becoming a bigger joke. Embarrassing.” The post has since been edited, removing the slide with David’s image, but many users still recall it, voicing their concerns about the misinformation in the post.

Thunberg collaborated on the post with Yasmin Acar from the Freedom Flotilla Coalition and several other accounts. The initial slide said: “The world is rightly horrified by what the Sumud Flotilla hostages are enduring,” highlighting the suffering of those arrested during the interception of their fleet by Israel.

The post also included a video featuring Ahmad Manasra, who was arrested at age 13 in connection with a stabbing incident in Jerusalem years ago.

In response to the controversy, the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs shared the now-deleted slide, calling out Thunberg’s post for being misleading. They stated, “Ignorance blinded by hate is trending.”

Thunberg, known for her climate activism, has recently spoken out against Israel amid the ongoing conflict in Gaza. She has been involved in two aid flotillas aimed at bringing support to the region, both of which were halted by Israeli naval forces.

Fox News Digital has reached out to Thunberg for further comments on this matter.
