England Dominates India in Warm-Up Match Ahead of Women’s World Cup

In a strong display, England’s captain Nat Sciver-Brunt scored a brilliant century, leading her team to a convincing 153-run victory over India in a warm-up match on Thursday, just days before the ICC Women’s World Cup.

Batting first, Sciver-Brunt hit an impressive 120 runs off 104 balls. She formed a notable partnership with Emma Lamb, who contributed a quick 84 runs from 60 balls. Together, they helped England reach a formidable total of 340 for nine in their 50 overs.

India struggled in their reply, getting bowled out for just 187 runs in 34 overs. Jemimah Rodrigues was the standout performer for India, scoring 66 runs off 68 balls. Uma Chetry also put up a fight at the top of the order with a score of 45 runs from 50 balls.

Despite high hopes, other batters like Harleen Deol, Richa Ghosh, and Deepti Sharma failed to make a mark. The top-order hitters—Pratika Rawal, Harmanpreet Kaur, and Smriti Mandhana—did not get a chance to bat.

For England, Linsey Smith and Sophie Ecclestone each took two wickets, while Kranti Goud was the most successful bowler for India, claiming three wickets for 31 runs.

Looking ahead, India will face New Zealand in their final warm-up match on Saturday before traveling to Guwahati for the World Cup opener against Sri Lanka on September 30. Unfortunately, India’s plans were slightly hampered as fast bowler Arundhati Reddy sustained an injury during the match. After successfully dismissing England’s opener Amy Jones, Reddy took a tumble while trying to make a catch and needed medical attention, resulting in her being taken off the field in a wheelchair.

Stay tuned for more updates as the Women’s World Cup approaches!
