U.K. Foreign Secretary Faces Fishing License Issue During Visit with U.S. Vice President
Recently, Britain’s Foreign Secretary, David Lammy, found himself in a bit of trouble after a fishing outing with U.S. Vice President JD Vance. The issue arose not from their discussions but from Lammy’s failure to hold a fishing license, as revealed by the U.K.’s Environment Agency.
Lammy had welcomed Vance and his family to his estate near London. The two shared a friendly moment by the river and also engaged in important talks on various international matters.
According to the Environment Agency, anyone over the age of 13 needs a license to fish in freshwater. They did not disclose whether Vice President Vance had a license, citing privacy concerns. Had he been fined, Lammy would have faced a penalty of nearly $4,000.
Despite the mishap, Lammy did eventually purchase a fishing license and characterized the situation as a simple administrative oversight. He humorously recounted that Vance shared some “Kentucky-style” fishing tips, but unfortunately, they didn’t help him catch any fish. Vance jokingly remarked, “The one strain on the special relationship is that all of my kids caught fish, but the foreign secretary did not.”
This playful exchange added a light note to their meeting, which was aimed at strengthening ties between the U.S. and the U.K.
Both Lammy and Vance seemed to enjoy the outing, and while it may not have gone exactly as planned, it certainly provided some memorable moments.
