Dhoni Keeps Fans Guessing About Future in IPL
As the future of MS Dhoni in the Indian Premier League remains uncertain, the Chennai Super Kings icon brought smiles to fans at a recent private gathering. When a fan eagerly asked him to consider playing in the 2026 season, Dhoni quipped with his signature humor, “Who will take care of the pain in my knees?”
During the event, the legendary captain of the 2011 World Cup made it clear that he hasn’t made any decisions yet. “I don’t know if I will play or not. I have time to think it over. I can decide by December, so I’ll take a couple of months to figure it out,” he said, leaving the possibility of another season open.
Dhoni’s knee issues have been a hot topic since IPL 2023, where he led CSK to victory despite enduring pain. After the championship match, he underwent surgery in Mumbai, which affected his batting style and speed on the field. In 2025, Dhoni initially stepped back as captain to let Ruturaj Gaikwad take charge, but returned mid-season when Gaikwad got injured. Sadly, that season ended poorly for CSK with only four wins out of 14 matches.
Though there is no official confirmation regarding his participation in IPL 2026, Dhoni has expressed his support for Gaikwad to take the captaincy again. For now, fans of CSK can only hope that their beloved “Thala” decides his knees can hold out for one more year.
