Beloved Filmmaker Chandra Barot Passes Away at 86 Following Health Struggles

Veteran filmmaker Chandra Barot, celebrated for directing the classic 1978 film Don featuring Amitabh Bachchan, has sadly passed away at the age of 86 on July 20. He had been fighting pulmonary fibrosis for seven years and was recently hospitalized at Guru Nanak Hospital. His wife, Deepa Barot, shared the news of his passing.

Barot’s death has sent shockwaves through the film industry, with many paying tribute to him online. Known for creating one of the most stylish thrillers in Hindi cinema, his influence on the industry is truly memorable.

Chandra Barot began his career in the 1970s, initially as an assistant director. He worked on various notable films such as Purab Aur Pachhim, Yaadgar (1970), Shor (1972), and Roti Kapda Aur Makaan (1974). His directorial debut, Don, not only became a huge success but also remains an iconic film to this day.

In addition to Don, Barot directed several Bengali films like Aashrita (1989) and Pyar Bhara Dil (1991). Though some projects like Hong Kong Wali Script and Neil Ko Pakadna…Impossible were never completed, his creative vision and storytelling talent left an unforgettable mark on the industry.

As fans and peers reflect on the legacy of the man who brought Don to life, Chandra Barot’s impact on Indian cinema will always be remembered with great respect and admiration.
