Deep Dasgupta Urges Jasprit Bumrah to Play in Crucial Fourth Test
Former India cricketer Deep Dasgupta believes that Jasprit Bumrah should definitely participate in the upcoming fourth Test against England in Manchester. Despite having played only two out of three Tests in the series, Bumrah has made a significant impact, taking five wickets in both matches, totaling 12 wickets across four innings with an average of 21.
Before the series began, there was considerable concern regarding Bumrah’s workload, especially since he had to miss the Champions Trophy due to a back injury sustained during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Gautam Gambhir had previously mentioned that Bumrah would likely play only three out of the five Tests, a point he reiterated after India’s loss at Headingley.
Shubman Gill has also been vague about Bumrah’s participation in the Manchester Test, but Dasgupta insists it’s essential for him to play given the current situation. Speaking to Star Sports, he noted that although rumors suggested Bumrah would only play in the first, third, and fifth Tests, the pressing need for a strong performance in Manchester makes it crucial for him to be on the field.
He said, “Absolutely yes, Jasprit Bumrah should play in the fourth Test. With India currently trailing 1-2 in the series, this match is extremely important. You want the best bowler in the world in your lineup.”
Adequate Time for Recovery
The last Test ended on July 14, while the next one is set for July 23, providing an eight-day gap for Bumrah to rest and prepare. Dasgupta pointed out that the interval is sufficient for him to regain his fitness and be ready for action.
“There’s an eight-day gap between the two Tests. While we don’t know how the fifth Test will be relevant after the fourth, it’s clear that this upcoming match is vital,” he explained.
Many former players, including Anil Kumble, have also urged Bumrah to participate in the next two Tests and consider resting afterward.
Conclusion
As the series continues, all eyes will be on Bumrah’s fitness and readiness for this critical match. His presence could be a game-changer for India as they strive to level the series against England.
