Harmanpreet Kaur Praises Shree Charani After India’s T20I Victory
Harmanpreet Kaur expressed her admiration for left-arm spinner Shree Charani, who played a vital role in India’s 3-2 victory over England in the Women’s T20I series. In her very first T20I series, Charani stood out, claiming the Player of the Series title after taking 10 wickets across five matches, with an economy rate of 7.46.
Charani is also set to compete in the upcoming ODI series, which kicks off on Wednesday, July 16, at the Rose Bowl in Southampton. Harmanpreet noted that Charani had made an impression during the 2025 Women’s Premier League (WPL), where she participated in just two matches but managed to take four wickets at an economy rate of 8.87.
“She’s a key player for us. In the WPL, even in the limited games she played for Delhi Capitals, she really impressed us. This led to discussions among the team management and selectors about her potential as a strong option for our squad,” Harmanpreet mentioned ahead of the ODI series.
Charani quickly found her rhythm in T20Is, delivering a remarkable debut performance with figures of 4 wickets for just 12 runs in 3.5 overs at Trent Bridge in Nottingham. While Smriti Mandhana earned the Player of the Match award with her maiden T20I century, Charani was equally praised for her outstanding bowling.
“We’ve been rotating players to find the best fit for our team. Charani has been exceptional for us. Additionally, Radha Yadav has also made a strong comeback. I hope their partnership continues to benefit the team,” Harmanpreet added.
Following their success in the T20I series, India aims to start the ODI series on a high note as part of their preparations for the ODI World Cup, which is set to begin on September 30.
