Shubman Gill’s Historic Double Century in Edgbaston Test
Captain Shubman Gill has made headlines as he becomes the first Asian captain to score a Test double century on English soil during the Edgbaston Test. Entering the series with some pressure, having averaged just 25.7 in previous SENA tests (South Africa, England, New Zealand, Australia) and only two half-centuries to his name, Gill turned the tide with a remarkable performance. He recorded his second century in England and achieved his first-ever score of 150 or more in Test cricket.
Remarkably, he is also the first Indian batter in 23 years to hit a score of 150+ in England, following the footsteps of Rahul Dravid, who scored an iconic 217 at The Oval back in 2002.
As captain, Gill has now set a new record for the highest individual Test score by an Indian skipper in England, surpassing Mohammed Azharuddin’s 179 at Old Trafford in 1990.

Additionally, Gill has exceeded Sachin Tendulkar’s record for the most runs by an Indian captain in an away series at just 25 years old. With a total of 323 runs in the ongoing series, he has overtaken Tendulkar’s tally of 290 from the 1997 tour of Sri Lanka.
On Day 2, Ravindra Jadeja also made a significant contribution with a solid innings, scoring 89 runs, just 11 short of his second century at Edgbaston. If he had managed to reach the century mark, he would have become the first Indian to score multiple Test centuries at this venue.
