Honolulu’s Queen’s Medical Center Unveils New Emergency Department
HONOLULU – The Queen’s Medical Center has officially opened its newly expanded emergency department as of Wednesday morning. Named the Uytengsu Family Emergency Department, the facility welcomed its first patients shortly after its grand opening at 8 a.m.
This emergency department is the busiest in Hawaii, treating over 62,000 patients each year. It offers care around the clock, every day of the year.
The latest upgrades to the emergency department include an increase in treatment rooms from 35 to 76, equipping the facility with the newest medical technologies. This includes specialized diagnostic and treatment facilities, as well as advanced CT and X-ray services.
Additionally, the new department features enhanced behavioral health services, providing a designated area for patients requiring mental health care. The design ensures a safe environment that respects the dignity of all individuals.
The improvements also allow for better patient flow, enabling the safe separation of those with suspected or confirmed infectious diseases from other patients.
With this expansion, Queen’s Medical Center aims to enhance healthcare access and quality for Native Hawaiians and all residents of Hawaii, staying true to the mission of its founders, Queen Emma and King Kamehameha IV.
