Release Update: Sitaare Zameen Par Faces Censorship Challenges

The highly anticipated film Sitaare Zameen Par is just days away from its release, creating buzz due to its thought-provoking themes and the involvement of Aamir Khan, who stars in and produces the film. Notably, Khan has decided against selling the film to any streaming platforms, opting instead for a traditional theatrical release.

As part of the release process, the film has been submitted to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). Recently, it was reported that the CBFC has requested a few edits. Despite these requested cuts, Aamir Khan has expressed his disagreement with the board’s decision.

According to an insider, the CBFC has suggested two cuts, but Khan believes the film should be released without these changes. He, along with director R S Prasanna, has thoughtfully crafted the film and feels the scenes in question are appropriate when viewed in context. The details regarding the specific cuts have not been disclosed.

Due to this disagreement, the film has not yet received its censor certificate. However, Khan is set to meet with the CBFC Examining Committee again to present his viewpoint. A resolution is hoped for soon, allowing the film to be cleared for its planned release on June 16. This is crucial as cinema rules prevent ticket sales without the necessary certification.

Interestingly, Sitaare Zameen Par has already been approved by the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) with a 12A rating. The BBFC noted that the film includes themes of discrimination and some moderate sexual references. The total runtime of the film is around 2 hours and 35 minutes.

Starring Genelia Deshmukh alongside Khan, Sitaare Zameen Par is set to hit theaters worldwide on June 20. Initially, the film was planned for a limited release, with a gradual increase in screenings based on audience reception. However, recent developments suggest it will now be shown in 3,000 to 3,500 screens, following requests from theaters.

Stay tuned for more updates on Sitaare Zameen Par, as fans eagerly await this new cinematic experience.
