In late May, the Tamil Nadu government made a notable move by approaching the Supreme Court to request the release of over ₹2,000 crore meant for the Samagra Shiksha Scheme (SSS). They argued that the central government was withholding these funds to pressure the state into adopting the National Education Policy (NEP) of 2020. Tamil Nadu has been firmly against certain aspects of the NEP, especially the three-language policy and what they perceive as a favorable bias towards Hindi.
