Kuldeep Yadav: A Key Player for India in Upcoming Test Series Against England
Matthew Hayden believes that Kuldeep Yadav could play an essential role for India in the upcoming five-match Test series against England, starting on June 20. With Ravichandran Ashwin having retired, Kuldeep is expected to step in as India’s second primary spinner, joining Ravindra Jadeja.
Despite limited experience playing outside India, with just one prior match in England, Kuldeep’s potential has caught the eye of many. Speaking at the launch of the Australian Summer of Cricket 2025-26, Hayden expressed his eagerness to see how the Indian team performs in this challenging series.
Hayden mentioned that the five Tests will be a true test of character for the young Indian squad. He emphasized the importance of having a reliable spinner, pointing out Australia’s stability with Nathan Lyon. He remarked, “Kuldeep Yadav could be a key bowler for India in taking 20 wickets during this series. Every strong team needs a consistent spinner, and that’s vital for success.”
In addition to discussing Kuldeep, Hayden reflected on Australia’s chances in the World Test Championship Final. He noted that while the core group of players remains, there are signs of change. He mentioned veterans like Steve Smith and Usman Khawaja and acknowledged the challenges that come with aging teams.
Hayden said, “Yes, we still have key players in the squad, but things are evolving. Every team faces moments when it’s time to reconsider their roster. Australia has been a dominant force during this cycle, largely because taking 20 wickets is crucial in Test cricket. With our strong pace attack and a world-class spinner like Nathan Lyon, we have a solid foundation.”
