Wiltson Energy Achieves Major Breakthrough in Battery Technology on Mount Everest

DONGGUAN, China—May 26, 2025 – Wiltson Energy, a top name in low-temperature battery innovation, has made waves with a remarkable achievement in battery reliability for high-demand power needs. Their unique low-temperature battery system played a crucial role in a significant expedition to Mount Everest, performing flawlessly at an altitude of 29,032 feet.

This advanced battery technology ensured the continuous operation of the highest automatic weather station on Earth along with essential ice core drilling tools, even in extreme conditions. Temperatures plummeting to -40°C (-40°F) and the harsh environment of Everest have historically made battery performance a huge challenge, but Wiltson Energy has cracked the code.

Traditionally, standard batteries, including those commonly used in cold climates, have struggled to provide the sustained power needed for critical scientific work. Wiltson’s engineering team tackled and overcame these challenges by utilizing their advanced low-temperature lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) technology. They focused on three main areas:

  1. Outstanding Cold Weather Performance: The battery achieved over 80% discharge efficiency at -40°C, matching performance seen at regular temperatures. This ensured that vital equipment was powered reliably.

  2. Solar Charging in Freezing Conditions: The technology allows for solar charging even at temperatures down to 0°C (32°F), which simplifies the process of energy replenishment in remote, cold locations without energy-consuming heating systems.

  3. Durable Design Against Pressure: The battery’s robust cylindrical steel casing handled the low air pressure and risks typically present at such high altitudes, making sure that it operated smoothly throughout the mission.

This successful mission confirmed the extraordinary resilience of Wiltson’s battery technology in some of the world’s toughest environments. The system provided uninterrupted power to scientific instruments for 12 days, all without needing any external power source or maintenance.

The implications of this breakthrough are extensive, especially for projects in challenging environments across the United States. Applications range from scientific research in chilly or high-altitude areas to essential infrastructure in cold climates, such as remote telecommunications and outdoor solar energy solutions.

Unlike regular low-temperature solutions dependent on external heating, Wiltson’s direct low-temperature battery can function in temperatures as low as -40°C without losing efficiency. This natural, no-heat needed approach leads to a more efficient design while removing cold weather as a barrier for battery performance. The technology is certified internationally for its safety and longevity, ensuring that it can withstand various application demands.

Robert Xie, Chairman and CTO of Wiltson, stated, "Powering critical scientific tools on Mount Everest while enduring sub-zero temperatures for 12 days is a huge milestone for us. This mission shows just how reliable our low-temperature battery technology really is. We’re proud to provide solutions for people facing extreme conditions, from scientists to infrastructure needs."
