Indian-Origin Mother Arrested in the U.S. for Allegedly Killing Her Son Following Disneyland Trip

In a tragic turn of events, a mother of Indian descent residing in the United States has been charged with the alleged murder of her 11-year-old son. This incident occurred shortly after a three-day vacation to Disneyland, which was part of a custody visit.

Authorities say that 48-year-old Saritha Ramaraju is accused of taking her son’s life by slitting his throat. The heartbreaking discovery was made when police arrived at a motel room in Santa Ana, California, where they found the boy deceased on the bed surrounded by mementos from their Disneyland trip. This took place on March 19, 2025, the morning he was supposed to be returned to his father.

Ramaraju had contacted emergency services to report the incident, claiming that she had harmed her son and had also taken pills in an attempt to end her own life. Upon arrival, police arrested her on suspicion of murder. A large kitchen knife, reported to have been bought just the day before, was discovered in the motel room.

The District Attorney’s Office explained that Ramaraju faces serious charges, including one count of murder and an enhancement for the use of a deadly weapon. If convicted, she could face a sentence ranging from 26 years to life in prison. She was scheduled for arraignment later that day.

Ramaraju, who had moved away after divorcing the boy’s father in 2018, was staying with her son at the La Quinta Inn during their planned custody visit. The two had spent time together at Disneyland, where Ramaraju purchased three-day passes for both of them.

Reflecting on this case, Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer expressed deep concern over the situation, stating, “The life of a child should not hang in the balance between two parents whose anger for each other outweighs their love for their child.” He emphasized the importance of parental responsibility and the need to protect children in custody disputes.

The community is left in shock as this devastating incident unfolds, highlighting the critical need for support and intervention in troubled family situations.
