PM Modi Meets Tulsi Gabbard in Washington, Discusses India-US Relations
In Washington, D.C., Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Tulsi Gabbard, the newly appointed US Director of National Intelligence, on Wednesday. The two leaders focused on strengthening the friendship between India and the United States.
Gabbard’s meeting with Modi occurred just hours after she took the oath of office in a ceremony at the White House. Following the meeting, PM Modi shared on X (formerly Twitter), “I met with the USA’s Director of National Intelligence, @TulsiGabbard, in Washington DC. I congratulated her on her confirmation and discussed various aspects of the India-US relationship, of which she has always been a strong supporter.”
PM Modi arrived in the US on Wednesday evening. He is scheduled to meet with President Donald Trump on Thursday for crucial bilateral discussions. This week marks an important moment as Modi is the fourth foreign leader to be received by Trump since his recent inauguration.
Prior to this meeting, Modi had just co-chaired an Artificial Intelligence summit in France alongside French President Emmanuel Macron.
During his visit to the US, PM Modi will engage with Trump, members of the US Cabinet, and industry leaders. India’s Ambassador to the US, Vinay Mohan Kwatra, and other officials welcomed Modi upon his arrival. This trip is significant as it is Modi’s first official visit to the US since Trump began his second term.
The Ministry of External Affairs stated that this visit aims to further the comprehensive global strategic partnership established between India and the US. PM Modi also expressed optimism on social media, saying, “Our nations will keep working closely for the benefit of our people and for a better future for our planet.”
The agenda for the meetings includes discussions on various topics, including trade and tariffs, which have been points of contention in recent US-India relations.
Overall, this visit symbolizes an effort to deepen ties between the two nations and continue the dialogue that promotes mutual growth and cooperation.
