Oklo Inc. Partners with RPower to Create Sustainable Power Solutions for Data Centers
Oklo Inc., a company focused on advanced nuclear power and fuel recycling, has teamed up with RPower, a leader in onsite power solutions, to launch a phased power model for data centers. This innovative approach aims to provide immediate energy using RPower’s natural gas generators while facilitating a shift towards clean and dependable energy from Oklo’s Aurora powerhouses. The goal is to reduce the reliance on diesel generators and promote environmentally friendly operations.
Jacob DeWitte, the Co-Founder and CEO of Oklo, stated, “This partnership is designed to ensure that data centers have access to safe and reliable energy today, while also paving the way toward cleaner energy in the future. With a growing demand from our clients and an impressive order book of 14 gigawatts, we are excited to collaborate with RPower to tackle both the short-term and long-term energy needs.”
The phased power model is set to roll out in three stages. The first stage includes the deployment of RPower’s natural gas generators within about 24 months, depending on site conditions, to cater to the immediate energy requirements of data centers not served by the local utility.
In the second stage, Oklo’s Aurora powerhouses, known for their advanced nuclear power capabilities, will be introduced to these sites as they become available. This transition will provide emissions-free energy. Eventually, the Aurora powerhouses are expected to take over as the primary energy source, allowing RPower’s natural gas generators to serve as backup options. This setup will enable RPower to contribute extra power to the local grid during peak demand times.
By merging Oklo’s advanced nuclear technology with RPower’s expertise in power systems, this partnership aims to deliver a complete and swift solution for data centers and other large energy consumers. Both companies are eager to implement this phased strategy for current clients, as well as for new customers who can take advantage of this effective combination of readily available natural gas generation and future nuclear energy options.
Jamie Smith, COO of RPower, said, “Our collaboration with Oklo offers a significant opportunity to address today’s energy requirements while preparing for cleaner solutions tomorrow. We look forward to introducing this phased model to market, which will give our customers timely energy solutions while helping them meet their sustainability goals.”
