Volleyball fans are in for a treat as the Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour Challenge gets underway today in Santa Rosa City. This event, organized by the Philippine National Volleyball Federation, promises thrilling competition at the Nuvali Sand Courts with teams from around the world.
Highlighting the tournament is the impressive duo of English twins, Joaquin and Javier Bello. Just weeks ago, they amazed everyone by rising from the qualifiers to winning gold at the Beach Pro Tour Elite 16 in Rio de Janeiro. They lead a strong lineup in this four-day competition, which features 24 teams in both the men’s and women’s divisions, competing for a total prize pool of $75,000.
The Bellos, currently ranked No. 17 in the world, are looking to secure another title in this challenge against spirited opponents, including the American team of Trevor Crabb and Theo Brunner, ranked No. 23, who are returning after winning a BPT Challenge in Guadalajara earlier this year.
From Italy, Gianluca Dal Corso and Marco Viscovich, who hold the 32nd spot in the world rankings, are eager to add to their victories after clinching two BPT Futures titles in their home country. Also competing are Sweden’s Jacob Hölting Nilsson and Elmer Andersson, currently ranked No. 43, fresh off their win at the BPT Challenge in Chennai, India.
The Philippine team, Alas Pilipinas, comprises of promising players like James Buytrago and Rancel Varga, who recently won a silver medal together at the BPT Futures in Nuvali. They are determined to recreate their successful partnership after competing with different teammates in the Asian Senior Championship.
Adding more local flavor, Southeast Asian Games bronze medalist Ran Abdilla will partner with newcomer Lerry John Francisco. There’s also a third Philippine team consisting of Ronniel Rosales and Edwin Tolentino.
On the women’s side, the leading pair from Alas Pilipinas, Kly Orillaneda and Gen Eslapor, will compete alongside teammates Alexa Polidario and Jen Gaviola.
