Election Results 2024: Live Updates from Maharashtra and Jharkhand
Today marks a significant day as the counting of votes for the important assembly elections in Maharashtra and Jharkhand gets underway. The results will determine the political landscape for both states and began at 8 AM.
In Maharashtra, a total of 288 seats are at stake. The main competition is between the ruling Mahayuti alliance, led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, which consists of the BJP, Shiv Sena, and NCP (Ajit Pawar faction), and the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) coalition, which includes the Congress, the Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray faction of Shiv Sena, and the Sharad Pawar faction of NCP. Most exit polls indicate that the Mahayuti alliance is likely to secure a strong victory, aiming to maintain its governing status.
This election is particularly noteworthy as it is the first since the Shiv Sena and NCP divided into factions, creating rival camps led by Shinde and Ajit Pawar.
In Jharkhand, where there are 81 assembly seats, the ruling JMM-led INDIA bloc is trying to hold on to power, while the BJP-led NDA aims to gain control. Although some exit polls suggest a slight lead for NDA, others are predicting a closely contested outcome that could result in a hung assembly.
In addition to the main elections, results are also being counted for by-elections in 15 assembly seats across Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Kerala, and Uttarakhand.
