Phil Salt Steps Up as Keeper for T20I Series Amidst Jos Buttler’s Comeback

Philip Salt is set to don the wicketkeeping gloves for England in the forthcoming T20I series against the West Indies, commencing this Saturday, November 9. This comes despite the much-anticipated return of the regular captain, Jos Buttler. Notably, Buttler has been sidelined since the T20 World Cup in June, missing both The Hundred tournament and the recent ODI series against Australia due to a calf injury.

Buttler’s last foray onto the international pitch was during the tense semi-final against India in the 2024 T20 World Cup. After a prolonged hiatus of six months, the England white-ball skipper will make his comeback. Nonetheless, owing to his return from injury, Buttler has opted to entrust the wicketkeeping duties to Salt for this series.

Elated at this unexpected opportunity, Salt expressed his enthusiasm for taking on the role, emphasizing that this is where he believes he can make the most significant impact for the team. He promptly dismissed any notions about a long-term commitment to the wicketkeeping slot, expressing sheer joy at the present moment.

“It’s not something I’ve done a lot for England recently,” Salt admitted. “But I enjoy keeping. I feel like that’s where I offer most to the side. We’ve not had that chat about anything going forward. I’m just glad to be doing it at the moment,” he stated, reflecting on his newfound yet perhaps temporary position.

### England Fights Back: ODI Series Now Tied

In another remarkable display of cricketing prowess, Salt has taken up the gloves in 13 of his 59 international appearances, and he is currently the designated keeper during the ongoing ODI series against the West Indies. In a dazzling performance in the second ODI, he scored a brilliant 59 runs, punctuated by eight exquisite boundaries, propelling England towards a challenging target of 329 runs.

England triumphed in that match by five wickets, with stellar performances from Liam Livingstone (124*), Jacob Bethell (55), and Sam Curran (52) adding vital heft to the scoreboard. With the series now perfectly balanced at 1-1, England will aim for victory in the decisive third ODI in Barbados, setting the stage for a gripping series of five T20 matches that follow.

#### England Squad for West Indies Tour:
Jos Buttler, Jofra Archer, Jacob Bethell, Jafer Chohan, Sam Curran, Will Jacks, Liam Livingstone, Saqib Mahmood, Dan Mousley, Jamie Overton, Adil Rashid, Phil Salt, Reece Topley, John Turner.
